University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview ranks among best children's hospitals in nation

MINNEAPOLIS (May 30, 2008)--University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview is among the best in the country when it comes to treating patients with cancer and respiratory disorders.  That’s according to U.S. News & World Report.

“This is well-deserved recognition for our entire team of physicians, nurses, therapists and others who come to work each day dedicated to bringing the best care possible to our pediatric patients,” said Kathie Taranto, chief operating officer, University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview.  “The rankings reflect the quality of our programs, the collaboration with faculty specialists at University of Minnesota Academic Health Center and the depth of research initiatives. These rankings provide us with even more incentive to keep raising bar on innovative care,” she said.

The rankings come as Fairview and the University of Minnesota begin construction of a new children’s hospital on the Riverside campus, which will consolidate inpatient pediatric services into one location.  Groundbreaking ceremonies are set for June 18th.

Last year, U.S. News & World Report published pediatric rankings that listed the top 30 pediatric centers overall.  This year, the 2008 “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” edition includes the 30-top ranked children’s hospitals in cancer, digestive disorders, heart and heart surgery, neonatal care, neurology and neurosurgery, respiratory disorders, and general pediatrics.

The University of Minnesota Children’s Hospital, Fairview, appeared in two categories—ranking 19th in the cancer, and 18th in respiratory disorders.
